Event Highlights
     FISMUN

For the 8th edition of the Frankfurt International School Model United Nations, our Model UN delegates were very excited to take on the responsibility of representing different countries. Our delegates were part of committees including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, Historical Security Council, and the International Criminal Court, and were dealing with intricate cases including the Invasion of Iraq in 2005, or the case of Prosecutor vs. Omar al-Bashir. Representing countries like Afghanistan, China, France, USA, or even being a Judge in the ICC, was difficult regarding the complexity of the topic at hand and their countries involvement, but each delegate represented their nation with full commitment. At the beginning of the conference, most delegates were scared and nervous about the rules of procedure, but it didn’t take them long to adapt and by the second day, were having a lot of fun in their respective committees. By the end of the conference, most of the delegates had successfully passed a resolution in their favour or declared Omar al-Bashir guilty, nonetheless, it was an amazing experience for each participant and the delegates cannot wait to attend another conference soon. Thank you to our wonderful chaperones for coming with us to FIS, your time is much appreciated.

- Tripti Rai

FISMUN was a great experience for all of us judges and delegates as we learned about the importance of cooperation, applying one's knowledge, and overcoming one's fear in public speaking. I know it may sound very daunting, but you won't regret signing up even if it is your first time at such a conference. I would know. This was my first MUN conference and if you ask any of the other delegates, they will tell you that I was extremely nervous all Day 1. In fact, I was so nervous that I even got lost on my way back to the committee room, which resulted in the President having to go look for me. Even though it was my first time, I was presented with the wonderful opportunity to be a Judge at the International Criminal Court. I felt very honoured, of course, but I was also very overwhelmed, especially on Day 1. However, looking back at the past three days I'm very glad I accepted the challenge as I gained confidence throughout the conference, while making new friends along the way. I can't wait for the next MUN conference and I hope I will see you there!

To wrap up this month's newsletter let us go through a portal that leads us to the closing ceremony, where one of our own delegates experienced some success: And the best delegate for HSC (historical security council) is ... the delegate of the United States of America, Aaryan Kandala. Yes, our very own head prefect won the best delegate award in his committee -- HSC. This is undoubtedly a very impressive feat, as being America in MUN is always challenging, but a whole new layer of complexity is added if the topic is the invasion of Iraq, so well done to Aaryan.

     Literacy Night

books we love board

Over 200 people, including ISF students, parents, faculty, and community members attended the ISF Parent Network’s Literacy Night on Friday, 23 February to “Fall in Love with Reading” at ISF. Students in grades 1-8 chose from 15 different activities. Options ranged from meeting two local authors to celebrating favorite fictional universes. Students learned to make paper dolls, origami hearts, and circuits, attended wizarding school, and created their own books. Creativity, imagination, and learning were values celebrated at the Literacy Night!

In between the two activity sessions, students fed their need to read with over 500 free books to choose from, generously donated by our ISF community. Books were available in various languages, including English, Korean, and Chinese. Attendees filled their goody bags with giveaways and freebies, including snacks, candy, stickers, bookmarks, bracelets, and more.

Literacy Night would not have been possible without a lot of help! A special thank you to these students, parents, faculty members, and community members for your generous support:

     Chinese New Year Celebration

ISF marked the return from break with a vibrant Chinese New Year celebration, immersing the school in festive decorations and activities. The highlight was the mesmerizing dragon dance, performed by our high school students, which brought the spirit of China to our doorstep. Students participated in activities to learn about Chinese culture and traditions, with opportunities to win prizes enhancing the experience.

This event was made possible thanks to the efforts of our parent volunteers and the dedication of our high school students, who worked tirelessly to share this beautiful aspect of Chinese culture with their peers. The day was a testament to the community spirit at ISF, showcasing our commitment to cultural appreciation and unity.

     Ski Trip in Austria

This February, during the much-anticipated ski break, a group of 12 adventurous students and 3 teachers from our school embarked on an exhilarating journey to Aschau im  Zillertal in Tirol, Austria. The trip proved to be an unforgettable experience, filled with thrilling ski runs, breathtaking scenery, and invaluable bonding moments among friends.

The trip was not just about skiing; it was a comprehensive adventure where students could immerse themselves in the beauty of the Austrian Alps, experience the local culture, and create lasting memories with their peers. Beyond the slopes, the students enjoyed cozy evenings in the hotel, sharing stories, laughs, and plans for the next day's adventures.

The bonding that occurred on this trip was palpable. Skiing alongside friends, helping each other navigate the trails, and encouraging one another to try new runs fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. These experiences outside the classroom are invaluable, contributing significantly to the students' personal growth and development.

    Swimming GISST

In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, swimmers from ISF have made their mark at the annual German International Schools Sports Tournament (GISST) held at the beginning of February. Competing against athletes from seven different international schools across Germany, ISF's swimmers showcased their prowess in both the Under 18 (U18) and Under 14 (U14) categories.

The tournament was a resounding success for ISF, as our teams brought home a staggering total of 71 medals, comprising 17 gold, 31 silver, and 23 bronze, across various swimming disciplines. This remarkable achievement highlights the dedication, hard work, and talent of our swimmers.

In the team categories, both our varsity girls and boys teams clinched second place, demonstrating their competitive edge and team spirit. The U14 boys continued the trend with a second-place finish, while the U14 girls proudly secured third place, showcasing the bright future of ISF's swimming program.

We extend our sincere gratitude and congratulations to all the ISF swimmers for their outstanding performances. A special thank you to our dedicated coaches, who have worked tirelessly to prepare our athletes for this level of competition. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the ISF staff and the parents, whose support has been invaluable in fostering a nurturing and encouraging environment for our students to excel in their sporting endeavors.
