Event Highlights
13th SABIS® Global Sports Tournament
In the Sports Academy, we recently had a great trip and participated in an exciting competition. We traveled to the U.A.E. for the 13th SABIS® Global Sports Tournament. We took five teams to compete in six different events, including U10 and U14 boys' soccer, basketball with our Varsity boys and girls teams, and swimming with eight of our swimmers.
We departed for Dubai on April 26th, early in the morning, and arrived in the evening. After distributing rooms, the students had some time to chat and enjoy themselves before getting some rest, as we had four intense days ahead of us.
On Thursday, April 27th, we had the morning off and went together to the Dubai Mall. The students had some free time to enjoy the beautiful weather. Later that day, we attended the opening ceremony at The International School of Choueifat ‒Sharjah, which was organized in style, making us feel like we were at the Olympic Games!
The next day, all the competitions began. We woke up early, had breakfast, and headed to the schools to compete with all our teams. Both students and chaperones/coaches were excited about the competitions, and there was a great atmosphere of sportsmanship in both schools where the competitions took place.
After three days of competition, we can conclude that the ISF performed well overall, although we did not win any trophies. Seven of our swimmers qualified for the semifinals in the breaststroke and backstroke events. Our basketball teams did a great job, especially considering they competed against teams with experienced G11-12 players. Although the boys' team lost two close games in the group stage, the girls won two of their matches and played the knockout phase, where they were eliminated.
Unfortunately, our soccer teams were less fortunate, losing their matches in the group stage. However, our soccer players competed well in their first SABIS® tournament.
All four soccer and basketball teams struggled with the high temperatures while competing, which most other schools were accustomed to, making it challenging for us. Despite these small inconveniences, our students enjoyed a trip full of good times, laughter, and joy. It was a fantastic opportunity to be surrounded by fantastic athletes from other SABIS® schools. We left with beautiful memories and learnings.
In conclusion, it was another fantastic bonding trip, and we returned with a suitcase full of wonderful experiences.
The 8th grade field trip to the Gutenberg Museum was an unforgettable experience.
The immersive activities intrigued everyone including the teachers and chaperones.
The opportunity to learn about such a great man was a fascinating chance for us to expand our knowledge about the great Johannes Gutenberg. The hands-on experience was by far the most exciting experience as we used models of the printing press to make beautiful pieces of art. While some of us experienced a jaw-dropping visual representation of how a printing press works, others were out in the city of Mainz finding clues and solving the mysterious puzzle. At the end of the day, we learned how one creative idea can change history forever. The entirety of grade 8 would like to thank Mrs. Seimetz, Mr. McDaniel, Mrs. Haeberlin, Mrs. Chugh, Mrs. Schutt, Mrs. Rader, Mr. Sangoor-Rye, and Mr. Bond for taking care of us during our trip.

Good Luck Seniors
It was plenty of fun to draw and color. I was happy to support the high schoolers by drawing something positive and encouraging to look at when they sit for their test.
-Isabella Brand, Grade 6
The Talent Show is taking place on the 5th of May at ISF this year. It is being organized by Ms. Tjukov and Mr. Falzarano. Come along to watch and cheer on your friends! Remember that only the top performers will have the chance to perform at Sommerfest, so all the best to all participants!

Music and Drama
Primary School
The Primary classes have been narrowing their focus toward their concert coming up on May 31. In grades 1 and 2, singing and playing boom whackers are the main activities. Grades 3 and 4 play the ukulele and have a choice of how to interact with their second piece. They can sing, play the ukulele and sing or only play the ukulele. Perhaps the greatest challenge is developing a shared understanding of stage presence. Music is different from the other subjects in a number of ways. The concert is a chance for students to consider how their individual behavior and choices affect the larger group’s ability to clearly communicate their music to the audience. There are some important life lessons for the students to consider through their preparation and performance on stage. We are working on these ideas in the Primary music classes to give all the students tools to be successful. We hope you can join us on May 31 for our live concert at 2:00 p.m. for grades 3 and 4 and 2:45 p.m. for grades 1 and 2. The concert will be recorded and shared through the school’s YouTube channel shortly after the live performance.
Middle School
The Middle School classes have also refined their focus toward the summer concert on June 7. The choirs are working on developing the various approaches between Western Art Music and more popular genres of singing. The strings have a variety of selections that highlight how they play in the Western Art Music tradition and also more popular World music genres. The Music Production class has started matching music and sound effects to a video project. We hope you are able to join their concert on June 7th at 2:30 p.m. in the school's theater. The concert will be recorded and shared through the school’s YouTube channel shortly after the concert.
High School
The High School classes have been working in a variety of ways at the start of the third term. Ninth-grade classes have been developing their composition skills in the first of two different composition projects this term. The IGCSE Music class has been working on world music, instruments, and how various cultures create music meaningfully. The IB Music class has been working on examining music-in-context and developing music performance skills. This music-in-context component culminates in a research paper that examines expressive, listening, entertainment, and electronic relationships in music.
