High School Musical Drama

IMG_4618

ISF Drama Club’s production of High School Musical Jr. was a HUGE success! I am so very proud of the cast and crew. It has been quite a journey with this year’s company. I feel the students have learned a lot about commitment, dedication, and time management as well as learning the ins and outs of putting on a show, resulting in a very fine production.  Also, I feel this show’s story gives students insight into the age-old question: stick to the status quo or break free and be yourself. I am grateful for the international culture we have here at ISF in which students are encouraged to be all they can be. We must remember that all creating a well-rounded child means is embracing Fine Arts as well as academics, and sports. And finally, this production could not have happened without the assistance of my dedicated and wonderful colleagues: Andrea Odendaal, Shane McDaniel, and Hailey Forsyth. Also special thanks to Angela Shi and Adrienne Hannon for their support in a myriad of ways. We will be looking at possible new shows for next year’s production, which we hope to announce before the end of the school year. It has been a fun and fantastic school year!

 Middle School Field Trips

Grade 5 Trip to Opel Zoo

The fifth graders had their field trip to the Opel Zoo.  It has been years since the vast majority of them had been on a school trip, therefore, their energy and excitement were contagious. From slushies to pandas and sleeping owls hiding their faces till dusk, every experience on this trip brought a smile to their faces. They wore their smiles openly the whole day, even when running from, perhaps the overly friendly, animals in the petting zoo, who gave chase to anyone who dared to purchase a box of animal feed and bring it in with them. In all, getting out of the school and into the sun for some hours of walking and new experiences seemed just the thing, and the fifth-grade class is still talking about it to this day.  We’re looking forward to organizing more trips and getting more real-world experiences to complement their book smarts.

Grade 7 Trip to Experiminta in Frankfurt

Last Friday was different! Instead of studying the whole day, we went to a Science Museum, the Experimenta!

It was a very educational and exciting trip. Our guide made the trip better because, unlike a few other groups, we managed to visit ALL the rooms in the Museum even if just for a few minutes. Many thanks to Ms. Kara from Experiminta.

Even though the rooms happened to be a bit small, they had a cafeteria and places to sit and eat, which was a really nice touch that allowed us to buy ice cream!

There were probably more than sixty experiments throughout the four floors. There was a sound booth where we all screamed "Chicken McNuggets" to check if the room was soundproof. It was not :(My favorite was probably the bubble room where, when pulling a rope, a bubble comes up and surrounds us. There was also an area where if one lays down on it and pressed a button, screws would come up all along the surface (the screws weren`t sharp at all). That was nice!

There were also these swings with a pulley system where if you pull a rope, the swing will go up.

The experiments were fun! This was the 1st field trip I have had since Grade 3 so thanks to everyone who made it possible!

Grade 6 Trip to Mathematicum

On the 17th of May, all Grade 6 classes ventured out on 2 separate buses to the Mathematikum in the beautiful city of Gießen. The ride from Frankfurt to Gießen was an hour long. When we arrived, we split into different groups based on our classes and supervisors. As we entered the tall and edificial building, we were taken to a small compartment in which we kept our belongings. Afterward, each group progressed to different floors. Each floor was packed with many equations and various puzzles. One of the coolest showcases seen was the first structure of the atom. Subsequently, we entered a crowded room filled with magnets and mechanisms. One of the most perplexing things in that room was a huge silver framework. This apparatus consisted of many twists and turns, in which about 10 different colored balls turned and rotated. We also had some fun getting into a huge bubble, which was produced by a ring saturated in soap. There was also a huge wall that had part of pi, however; its huge size is irrelevant to that of pi, as pi is infinite. Thereupon, we had our snacks. We went back to the lockers, took out our food, and ate together with other visitors. Shortly after that, we continued exploring the museum. Finally, when we were done, we regrouped and boarded the 2 buses again, and went back to school. Despite the trip being a bit too short, it was truly a sublime and mesmerizing experience, and we, as fellow classmates, really enjoyed being together and, of course, with the teachers and parents who accompanied us.

Grade 8 Trip to Gutenberg Museum

The Grade 8 field trip to the Gutenberg Museum was an unforgettable experience.

The immersive activities intrigued the entirety of the grade as well as the teachers and chaperones.

The opportunity to learn about such a great man was a fascinating chance for us to expand our knowledge of Johannes Gutenberg. The hands-on experience was by far the most intriguing experience, as we used models of the printing press to make beautiful pieces
of art.

While some of us experienced a jaw-dropping visual representation of how a printing press works, others were out in the city of Mainz finding clues and solving the mysterious puzzle. At the end of the day, we learned how one creative idea can change history forever.

Everyone in Grade 8 would like to thank the teachers Mrs.Seimetz, Mr.McDaniel, Mrs.Haeberlin, Mrs.Chugh, Mrs.Schutt, Mrs. Rader, and PN representative, Mr.Sangoor-Rye for taking care of us the entire trip.

Summer Musical Showcase

All primary classes have been working on their pieces in preparation for the concert that was held on May 31 at 2 p.m. It started with grades 3 and 4 followed by a short intermission after which grades 1 and 2 performed at 2:45 p.m. Grades 1 and 2 sang one song and played Boomwhackers during another. Grades 3 and 4 all played the ukulele accompanying one piece and then had the choice to play, sing or do both for a second song. All of these songs can be heard on the weekly playlists updated in Teams. Students worked diligently to develop skills and were looking forward to sharing them with you all. The performance was video recorded and shared through YouTube shortly after the concert.

The Music Production class is working on matching music and sound effects to various selected videos. Some sounds are recorded in class and will be used in addition to loops and other sound effects. A selection of their work will be shared during the concert on June 7 at 2:30 p.m. The concert will be recorded and shared through the school’s YouTube channel shortly after the concert.

Senior Color Splash

On Friday, May 19, Grade 12 students celebrated the end of their IB finals with a color festival on the tennis courts at school. The festival took place in the warm sunshine with lots of laughter, smiles, and joyous conversations. ISF Student Experiences Radio Talk Show 2023

ISF Grade 11 student and leader of the ISF News team Max, had the opportunity to go to the Frankfurt Radio studio. He met Armand Zorn, member of the German Bundestag, and Stefan Dr. Soehngen, executive partner at Relationing, who were that day's episode guests on Frankfurt Talk. Max had an exciting glimpse behind the scenes of producing a radio talk show. Thank you to the Newcomers Network for this wonderful experience!

Radio Frankfurt is located in the Skyline Studios in Frankfurt am Main. The office has a 360-degree view which is overwhelming. Not only was this the first time I have been to a radio station but then being welcomed by very nice people who were trying to show me everything was awesome. Having the opportunity to have a look at how a politician like Armand Zorn is being interviewed and the chance to chat with everyone on set was a very exciting thing to do!

Tennis GISST Tournament 2023

Last Saturday marked our appointment with the GISST Tennis competition. Our team traveled to Leipzig on Friday after school to spend the night in Leipzig and be rested and ready for the competition. Seoyoon, Leopold, Halang, and Soma, with Mr. Jamal as a coach, were the four tennis players who had the privilege of representing ISF in this competition.

After a beautiful and intense day of good tennis, Leopold got the best Seed #2 singles and our team managed to reach the second position overall on the podium. This a well-deserved award for our committed tennis players who put forward a great tournament. Good job, Bulldogs!
