Event Highlights

    ISF SWIMMING GISST

We are so happy and proud to have hosted the Swimming GISST 2023 at ISF. Our ISF Swim Team did an amazing job at this Competition. All swimmers showed excellent sportsmanship, determination, grit, team-spirit and strength!

Our Boys Varsity walked away with 1st Place overall , our Boys U14 placed 3rd overall!

We can’t thank our coaches enough for all the time and effort they put into our team. Without you, we never would have achieved our success in this competition.

- St. Georg School Duisburg-Düsseldorf (STG)

We would also like to thank the paarticipating schools:

- Bavarian International School (BIS)

- Berlin International School (BerIS)

- Dresden International School (DIS)

- Franconian International School (FIS)

- International School of Stuttgart (ISS)

- International School Frankfurt Rhein-Main (ISF)

"All my efforts definitely bore fruit. Finally, the GISST competition came this weekend, and I broke all of my personal records. The team spirit was amazing, and that's what gave me the force to push myself, as I heard people screaming my name outside the pool. Especially in the relays, I could see how close we varsity boys were, and that definitely contributed to us winning 1st place.

This is an incredible result, especially because, although I have participated in this competition before, we as a Varsity team have never achieved 1st place while I am on the team. I feel incredibly proud for keeping my commitment to swimming, improving myself, and constantly going to training even though I didn't feel like it for the past two years.

Finally, I can end my time on the high school swim team with a result I can be proud of. The fact that some of my best times came after having not swum for a while makes this even more meaningful, proving how hard I challenged myself. I think I also improved in terms of team spirit, as my voice still hurts from all the cheering I did for all my teammates, something I hadn't done as extensively in the past. Therefore, I can end this experience knowing I am a better swimmer and a better team player."

- Francesco Schiavio from Grade 12

 IB ART EXHIBITION

This year’s IB Art Exhibition took place at ISF and included a reception on Thursday the 23rd of February. The exhibited artworks were displayed throughout the school in various areas. Five first-year students from grade 11 exhibited one work each in the lobby while each of the six IB grade 12 candidates selected a space within the school to organize groups of work to curate. During the reception, each candidate oriented the audience toward their installation. The students digitally documented the exhibition for IB assessments and received valuable feedback from visitors. In addition, participating students received the necessary preparation needed for this critical event from Mr. Richard who was aid aided by Ms. Shi, Ms. Hajo, and Ms. Schölles. This was a significant experience for each candidate. The exhibition remained up for a week throughout the school. Ms. Lee’s grade 9 English course and Levesque’s students as well as others visited the exhibits to develop ideas for writing in class.

This is a major accomplishment that has been developing for over 2 years. We are proud of our student artists.

FAMUN

On Thursday, January 19, ISF held its second annual Extended Essay (EE) Café. The event occurred after school, with two panels of IB2 students presenting their research to an audience of roughly forty IB1 and grade 10 students. The event was organized by IB2 students Kea Frölich and Matthias Schreeb as their CAS project.

This was an opportunity for IB2 students to share their research findings, and celebrate their accomplishment of having completed their essays. It was also a chance for them to share their experiences and advice with IB1 students, who are just now beginning their own EE research.

The EE is part of the IB Diploma core – along with Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – which all students must complete in order to earn a full IB Diploma. It is an independent, self-directed piece of research, culminating in a 4,000-word paper, which students must submit before the holiday break of IB2. With the support of a staff supervisor, students must choose their own topic, develop their own research question and methodology, and produce a genuinely worthwhile contribution to the ongoing academic discussion in a field that interests them.

This project allows students to explore an area of interest to them in more depth than perhaps any other aspect of the diploma program. It also furnishes them with excellent practice and preparation for undergraduate research and pushes them to develop their critical thinking, reading comprehension, communication, and planning skills.

HAPPY FASCHING

On the day of Fasching, the SLO Activities Department hosted a Fasching party, exclusively for Middle school kids. The students played fun games, danced, and participated in costume contests. In between these fun events, the students were offered snacks and refreshing drinks, so that they can rest, relax, and continue to have fun. In the end, students had a good time with their friends and teachers.

2023 SKI TRIP TO AUSTRIA
by the ISF Sports Academy

The winter break trip to Tauernhof, Obertauern in Austria, took place from Sunday the 12th of February to Friday the 17th. The trip was a great success, and I am pleased to report that all 28 students from grades 6 to 9 enjoyed the experience. The accommodation at the Jugendhotel Tauernhof was excellent, and the package, which included train tickets to and from Austria (Radstadt), a bus from Radstadt to the hotel, five-night accommodation, meals, ski lessons, access to the ski slopes, and rental of helmet, skis and ski shoes, was very well organized. The three teachers/chaperones, Mr. Peter Jamal, Mrs. Leonor Marqués, and Mr. Jaume Martin ensured that the students had a safe and enjoyable time.

I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Torres and Ms. Martínez for their excellent organization, as well as to Mr. Jamal and Mrs. Marques. They have all contributed to the smooth running of the trip. The students were able to learn and improve their skiing skills while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Austrian Alps. The trip also allowed them to bond with their peers and adults, creating a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. We're all safely back home and look forward to coming back next year!!!

Wellness Cancer Week  by Annika Rader

February was National Cancer Prevention month so to bring awareness to the students, during the first week of February, the SLO Wellness Department hosted Cancer Week. We informed and educated students about certain types of cancers. Each day was dedicated to a different type of cancer: Monday = Lung cancer, Tuesday = Skin cancer, Wednesday = Colorectal cancer, Thursday = Oral cancer, and Friday = Breast cancer.

Each day an informational poster was posted on the IWB boards in the classrooms containing facts about what each cancer is, its causes, and how to prevent it, plus a video was shared on Teams for students to watch. On Thursday, we organized a highly successful bake sale where all funds earned were donated to ’FRANKFURTER STIFTUNG für krebskranke Kinder’ a children’s cancer foundation. We raised a total of 187 euros for the foundation!

Outreach- Spirit Days by Rachel Mason

This February, to bring a loving spirit to ISF, Valentine’s candy-o-gram sale was held. The proceeds went towards relief for victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. In total, ISF raised 142 Euro.

ISF hosted a spirit day for Fasching on Tuesday, February 21st. The students and even some of the teachers dressed up in their most creative costumes for the day. All of us enjoyed seeing ISF’s students having fun in their costumes.

LS 100th Day by Vanya Chugh

On February 22, we celebrated the 100th day of school at ISF. It was an extraordinary experience! We had a spirit day where students had to dress up as 100-year-old people. We also organized a project and poetry contest for all the students and the winners will be announced soon. There is a bulletin board in the main lobby and all students are encouraged to write what they love about ISF. After school, SLO also organized some activities in period 9. My team learned a lot about organization from this event. As always, I would like to thank my wonderful team for helping me!
