Visit with Mr. Bistany by Dharini Harini Palanivetrivlan
SLO Head Prefect
On November 30th, the SLO Leadership Team had the opportunity to have a meeting with Mr. Bistany (the president of SABIS®), Ms. Wesley (the SABIS® Executive Director of Operations), Ms. Rader (ISF School Director) and Ms. Hannon (ISF SLO Coordinator). We took some time to reflect on Term 1 and share our plans for Term 2. We shared our experiences of being leaders so far, covering both the positive changes that we created at our school and the challenges that we faced in the process. Mr. Bistany motivated us with some inspiring words and encouraged us to reach out to more people. It was a pleasure and honor for us as the leadership team to meet with him and his team.
Sinterclass!!
We started the month off with fun and anticipation with a visit on December 5 from Sinterklaas – the Dutch Counterpart of the German tradition of St Nikolaus (December 6). As is customary, children put their shoes outside the night before so that Sinterklaas can fill them with sweets and treats. In the olden days, people wore wooden shoes called clogs. Inspired by this, the primary children with their teachers' help, made and decorated their own clogs and shoes out of paper and left them on their school desks or windowsills so that Sinterklaas could fill them with bags of cinnamon cookies before the children arrived in school. Later on, during the day, Sinterklaas made a personal visit to the Primary Homerooms, which was widely appreciated by the children, especially after a 2-year pause during the pandemic. Thank you Sinterklaas and welcome back!
Globe Business College Munich Golden Ticket Weekend
Twenty Grade 11 & 12 students participated in the Golden Ticket Weekend, where they worked on an exciting business project over two days. This strategic workshop initiative by Globe Business College Munich is designed to bring schools, companies, and colleges together to develop skills and character in young people. The event took place here at ISF on Saturday, the 10th, and on Sunday, the 11th of December, and was sponsored by the Roma KG.
On Saturday, Dr. Susan Walsh, Dean of Globe Business College, and Irish actor Packy Lee challenged our students to step out of their comfort zone and supported them in developing presentation and collaboration skills while working on their group projects and preparing their final presentations.
On Sunday, the four student teams gave their presentations in front of an audience of families and friends. Judges for the presentations were Dr. Vincent Docherty from Globe College, and ISF and Globe College graduates Steffen (ISF 2014) and Shivaansh (ISF 2018).
All four teams did an excellent job in their presentations, but only one team could be selected as the overall winner: Team 4 was selected by unanimous decision!
While business was the overall context, the weekend was really about character and skill development, with the focus being on the five skills of communication: empathetic exchange, bigger-picture thinking, grit/passion, and time management, as well as gaining an understanding of what is required in the real business world in terms of mindset.
I thank the participating students for taking this opportunity and for accepting the challenge, Globe Business College Munich for being such great partners and for offering our students this unique opportunity, the parents for coming to school on a Sunday to support their students during the presentations, and, of course, Steffen and Shivaansh for returning to ISF to support our current Grade 11 & 12 students!
I am certain that all participants will benefit from this experience for a long time. We will share more information about the workshop weekend once it is published by Globe College.
Dirk Lehmann
Thank you @packylee for coming to ISF last weekend as part of the @globe_business_college_munich 's Golden Ticket Weekend team. He worked with High School students on presentation skills, body language, and the like. Additionally, Mr. Lee also took the time to pay a short visit to our drama team when he heard the kids were rehearsing downstairs. Since he also got his start in drama in school, Mr. Lee was able to connect with the children and share inspirational words with our drama students.
Pure happiness — It's incredible to see how much joy snow brings to the students from all grades.
The ninth grade IGCSE P.E. class conducted a heart dissection on Wednesday. The hands-on experience allowed the students to develop a better understanding of the cardiovascular system and the pathways the blood takes throughout the body. What a wonderful Christmas treat for the students!
