WHAT'S NEW?

We are excited to announce that ISF will be managing and organizing our very own internal sports academy. In the past, the extracurricular sports were organized by an outside Sportverein (SV), but SV has voted to dissolve. Therefore, ISF will launch ISF Sports Academy this academic year. This is a thrilling opportunity for ISF to utilize the amazing sports facilities on campus to the fullest.

In line with our continuous commitment to excellence, ISF will offer a high-quality sports program where students can participate in extracurricular and competitive sports. We aim to teach our students how to live a healthy life, which includes social, emotional, mental, and physical health. ISF Sports Academy will help students discover the joy of healthy habits through the sports we offer, with the goal of creating a lifelong habit of exercise and movement.

To help lead and organize the ISF Sports Academy, we warmly welcome our new Athletic Director, Dr. Puente Torres.

WHAT TYPES OF SPORTS ARE AVAILABLE?

You can look forward to all the sports that SV used to offer - Basketball, Badminton, Football/Soccer, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Swimming, Track & Field, and more!

Our U14 Bulldogs and Varsity Bulldogs will focus more on GISST (German International School Sport Tournaments). Their training will prepare them to participate in and be successful at the annual GISST competitions!

The sports activities will be run seasonally, enabling students to take part in a wider variety of activities throughout the year. Students will need to enroll in the respective sport activity anew every term.

In the past, the majority of sports activities were run by Sportverein (SV) and some were run through SLO. This year, any sports or fitness activity will be run through ISF Sports Academy, such as cricket, table tennis, Capoeira, etc.

Take a look at the online registration page (link to be shared soon) for further details on the sports and fitness activities offered.

The athletics peer leadership program engages High School students in creating and sustaining a culture of lifelong student leadership development, training, and education. This program is organized by our Student Life Organization® (SLO®) and seeks to empower students to become everyday leaders by facilitating and encouraging opportunities for extracurricular learning, self-reflection, and skill development. We aim to develop leaders who embody the school's mission and core values to do their best, take ownership, be respectful, kind, and inquisitive, cultivate awareness, and practice honesty and social responsibility.

GISST
(German International Schools Sports Tournament)

ISF Sports Academy will continue to be a member of GISST, an organization that facilitates friendly but competitive tournaments among small- to medium-sized international schools within Germany.

GISST hosts tournaments for the following sport disciplines: Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Swimming, Table Tennis, Basketball and Tennis. Every annual sport tournament takes place over a two- to three-day period in one of the member schools.

U14 Bulldogs and Varsity Bulldogs are able to attend the respective GISST tournaments, should they be selected and be academically eligible.

Students enrolled in these sports at ISF Sports Academy will have the option to go to the corresponding competition. In the past, families from the host school had housed the players from the various schools in their homes. From this year onward, all players will find accommodation in hotels or hostels.

Each competition incurs costs for transportation, accommodation, meals, competition fees, etc. The athlete will bear the cost of the hotel, meals and travel. The cost will vary depending on location of the competition and availability of travel/accommodations.

Information and details for each tournament will be provided by ISF Sports Academy prior to each event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are sports now run by ISF and not Sportverein?
The ISF Sportverein was a club run as a separate entity to ISF school. The club voted to dissolve at the AGM in June. ISF therefore decided to create the ISF Sports Academy within the school in order to ensure our students are provided with a high-quality extra-curricular sports program.

What's the difference between P.E. and the ISF Sports Academy?
P.E. (Physical Education) is the sports lesson that takes place as part of the school curriculum. Students take part in these lessons as per their timetable.

The ISF Sports Academy offers extra-curricular sports activities that students can take part in outside of lesson time. Participation is optional.

What are the costs for ISF Sports Academy trainings?
The sports activities will be charged per activity per day of the week. The pricing details are listed on the registration page (link to be shared soon).

How can I pay for the activities?
Once the students are enrolled in the respective sports and activities, each family will be sent an invoice for payment via bank transfer. The invoice will include the cost of each sport the student has registered for and the cost of the uniform.

The invoice must be paid within the first two weeks of each term. If the invoice is not paid within the first two weeks, the student will not be permitted to participate in the trainings. This may result in the student losing their spot on the team or in the activity.

Are team uniforms provided?
ISF Sports Academy has designed custom-made uniforms and accessories for our Bulldogs. We have backpacks, t-shirts, tracksuits, jerseys, swim caps and towels. You can see the prices listed below.

All Fit Bulldogs, Junior Bulldogs, U14 Bulldogs and Varsity Bulldogs are required to purchase the ISF Sports Academy t-shirt and backpack. Those enrolled in swimming will also be required to purchase the cap and towel.

How can parents support ISF Sports Academy?
We welcome all parents and family members to help out! For further information and to express your interest, contact our Athletics Director, Dr. Puente Torres, via email:sportsacademy@isf.sabis.net

How are the sports organized?
Through ISF Sports Academy, all sports will take place seasonally.

ALL BULLDOGS will need to register for each sport your child would like to participate in every term. For Bullpups Bulldogs, Fit Bulldogs and Junior Bulldogs - provided that interest the same remains, the same sports will be offered each term.

For U14 Bulldogs and Varsity Bulldogs, the following applies: Depending on interest in each sport and/or whether a GISST competition is upcoming, some sports will be offered throughout the school year, whereas some may be discontinued after a season. This will be communicated each term.

Who can compete in GISST?
Students enrolled in a GISST competition sport (see registration page for details - link to be shared soon) will have the option to compete in the competition. Should the number of students who wish to compete in the competition exceed the number of students who are permitted to go as per GISST rules, the coaches will determine which students may participate and who is academically eligible.

Is it mandatory to go to GISST?
No, it is not mandatory for students enrolled in a GISST competition sport to compete in the tournament. However, we encourage all eligible players attend the competition. It is a wonderful opportunity to travel, meet students from other international schools, plus have fun!

How are trips to away tournaments organized?
In the past, families from the host school had housed the players from the various schools in their homes. From this year onward, all players will find accommodation in hotels or hostels.

Each competition incurs costs for transportation, accommodation, meals, competition fees, etc. The athlete will bear the cost of the hotel, meals and travel. The cost will vary depending on location of the competition and availability of travel/accommodations.

How many sports is a student allowed to take part in?
We encourage students to take in as many sports as they like. More information can be found on the registration page (link to be shared soon)

What happens if a low number of students sign up for a sport?
Should we experience low interest in a sport, the sport will be cancelled for the term. The minimum and maximum number of students needed and permitted to register for each respective sport is listed in detail on the online registration page (link to be shared soon)

What will coaches do in case of bad weather?
Students will either practice that sport in an area protected from bad weather or an indoor area and practice a different sport.
